Rep. Stephanie Barnard sponsors Chrysalis Academy student as House page

Asher Bruce, 17, recently served as House page at the Washington State House of Representatives. The Chrysalis Academy student was sponsored by 8th District Rep. Stephanie Barnard.

Asher got an up-close look at the Legislature during his time in Olympia. His responsibilities included delivering messages and documents to state lawmakers in their offices, in committee meetings, and on the floor of the House chamber. He also attended Legislative Page School every day.

“It’s wonderful to see students like Asher take part in the legislative process. The House page program provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for civic-minded students to learn about state government,” said BarnardR-Pasco. “It’s important for students to get involved and understand how government works. I hope Asher enjoyed his time in Olympia. I wish him all the best in the future.”

Asher is the son of Joseph and Amber Bruce. His interests include writing, political science and playing chess.

Pages earn $50 per day while serving in the program. To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For more information about the House page program, click here.
