Kennewick student serves as Page in the Washington State House of Representatives
Deeptha Sathuvalli, a 10th grader at Southridge High School, recently traveled to Olympia to serve as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Rep. Stephanie Barnard sponsored her visit during the 2026 legislative session.
“Deeptha was a wonderful addition to our team at the Capitol,” said Barnard, R-Pasco. “She brought great energy, asked thoughtful questions, and showed a genuine interest in learning how state government works. It was a pleasure to have her represent our community here in Olympia.”
During her time at the Capitol, Deeptha participated in a wide range of page duties, including delivering messages and documents to legislators, navigating the Capitol campus, and assisting on the House floor. She also attended page school each day, where students learn firsthand how laws are made and how the legislative process works.
“The page program gives students a real look at how their government operates,” Barnard added. “Deeptha handled her responsibilities with maturity, and I am proud of the work she accomplished while she was here.”
Outside of her legislative duties and school activities, Deeptha enjoys watching TV, listening to music, meeting new people, and participating in debate, interests that reflect her curiosity, communication skills, and enthusiasm for connecting with others.
Each year, students from across Washington apply to participate in the legislative page program. Pages earn $65 per day and receive valuable civics education through hands-on experiences, including attendance in page school and working alongside House members and staff
“I’m grateful Deeptha took the time to join us in Olympia,” Barnard concluded. “I look forward to seeing her continue to grow and pursue her interests both in and out of the classroom.”
