VIDEO: Rep. Stephanie Barnard testifies on HB 2090 | A smarter, data-driven clean energy strategy
Rep. Stephanie Barnard, R-Pasco, testifies before the House Environment and Energy Committee in support of her sponsored legisation–House Bill 2090–which directs the Washington State Department of Commerce to develop a comprehensive, transparent nuclear power strategic framework—at no cost to the state.
HB 2090 is not a mandate to build nuclear facilities. Instead, it calls for an evidence-based planning process that evaluates how advanced nuclear energy could fit alongside wind, solar, hydro, and storage as Washington works to meet its clean energy and climate goals.
In her testimony, Barnard explains why reliable, clean, firm energy matters as electricity demand grows, highlights the often-overlooked land-use impacts of different energy sources, and outlines how HB 2090 would help policymakers and communities better understand cost, permitting, workforce, and reliability considerations.
The goal: ensure Washington has complete, state-specific information to pursue affordable, reliable decarbonization while minimizing environmental and community impacts.
