Rep. Stephanie Barnard shares details about her bill aimed at creating jobs and bolstering nuclear energy industry

Rep. Stephanie Barnard, R-Pasco, shares that the House has approved her bill, House Bill 1210, which aims to boost the economy and grow the nuclear fuel manufacturing industry in the Tri-Cities. The bill now heads to the Senate for further review. HB 1210 expands tax exemptions for large energy companies, encouraging businesses regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to set up or grow in the area.

If the Legislature fully approves Barnard’s proposal, it could bring 500 to 1,500 good-paying jobs and help establish the Tri-Cities as a leader in clean energy. Washington has big goals for reducing carbon emissions and increasing clean energy use, and nuclear power is a key part of that plan. This bill helps keep the Tri-Cities at the forefront of clean, affordable, and reliable energy by relying on the skilled, local workforce, expertise, and advanced technology sector.
