Rep. Stephanie Barnard sponsors local student as House page

Samuel Grimm, a 15-year-old student at Coram Deo Academy, recently had the opportunity to serve as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Sponsored by Rep. Stephanie Barnard, R-Pasco, Samuel spent a week at the Capitol learning about the legislative process and assisting with daily operations.

“Samuel brought great energy and a strong work ethic to his role as a page,” said Barnard. “His willingness to take on new tasks and engage with the process shows a bright future ahead of him, no matter what path he chooses.”

Throughout the week, Samuel took on various responsibilities, including delivering documents between offices, working on the House floor, and participating in page school, where he expanded his knowledge of state government.

When he’s not in school, Samuel enjoys playing basketball and soccer and is actively involved in his church youth group.

“The page program is a fantastic way for students to step into the world of public service,” Barnard added. “Samuel’s involvement this week gave him a valuable perspective on how our state government functions, and I hope it encourages him to stay engaged in civic life.”

The Washington State House Page Program runs throughout the legislative session, which this year spans from Jan. 13 to April 27. Open to students aged 14 to 16, the program offers a daily stipend of $65 and up to 20 hours of community service credit. Financial assistance is available through the Gina Grant Bull Memorial Legislative Page Scholarship.
