Hanford High student serves as House page for Rep. Stephanie Barnard

Vivian Vargo, a student at Hanford High School, recently completed her service as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Under the mentorship of Rep. Stephanie Barnard, R-Pasco, Vivian gained valuable insight into the state’s legislative process.

“Vivian demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and dedication during her time as a legislative page,” said Barnard. “Her eagerness to learn and willingness to take on new challenges made her a welcome addition to our legislative team.”

During her week at the Capitol, Vivian immersed herself in the Legislature’s daily operations. Her responsibilities included delivering important documents between offices, assisting with House floor proceedings, and participating in the page school program, where she deepened her understanding of state government.

“The page program offers students a unique opportunity to witness the legislative process firsthand,” said Barnard. “Vivian’s engagement with state government during this valuable learning experience has equipped her with practical knowledge that will serve her well in future civic endeavors. Our office was fortunate to have her contributions this session.”

Between January 13 and April 27, the legislative session offers weekly opportunities for student participation. Students aged 14 to 16 are eligible to serve, receive a daily stipend of $65, and can earn up to 20 hours of community service.
