Hanford High student serves as House Page for Rep. Stephanie Barnard

Max Wallace, a student at Hanford High School, recently served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives under the sponsorship of Rep. Stephanie Barnard, R-Pasco.

“Max brought a great mix of focus and enthusiasm to the Capitol,” said Barnard. “His ability to quickly adapt to new situations made him an asset to our legislative team during his time here.”

Outside of academics, Max finds joy in playing guitar, exploring video games, and staying active through running. These diverse interests have helped shape his adaptable approach to new experiences.

During his week in Olympia, Max immersed himself in the full spectrum of legislative activities. He handled important document deliveries throughout the House chamber, provided essential support to member offices, and participated in page school sessions. This combination of hands-on work and classroom learning gave him valuable insights into the mechanics of state government.

“The page program opens doors for students to experience government from the inside,” Barnard observed. “It’s amazing to see how much they learn and grow in just one week.”

The legislative session offers weekly opportunities for student participation between January 13 and April 27. Students aged 14 to 16 are eligible to serve and receive a daily stipend of $65, potentially earning up to 20 hours of community service.
