Rep. Stephanie Barnard named lead Republican on House Technology, Economic Development, and Veterans Committee
Rep. Stephanie Barnard, R-Pasco, has been named the lead Republican on the House Technology, Economic Development, and Veterans Committee. A committee member since joining the Legislature, Barnard will play a key role in guiding critical discussions and shaping decisions affecting Washington state’s technology sector, economic growth, and support for veterans.
“I am excited to serve in a leadership position on this important committee,” said Barnard. “The issues we address — from supporting small businesses and underserved communities to advancing broadband and creating economic opportunities — are essential to ensuring Washington remains competitive in today’s economy.”
The House Technology, Economic Development, and Veterans Committee focuses on issues related to economic and rural development, small businesses, underserved communities, minority- and women-owned enterprises, community development, international trade, tourism, emergency preparedness, broadband, telecommunications, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, data privacy, cybersecurity, state IT systems, and veterans’ and military affairs.
Barnard’s leadership on this committee also led to the development of her MATCHED Act proposal, House Bill 1057. The bill is designed to help rural and struggling communities access federal funding by providing state matching dollars. It aims to unlock resources for housing, broadband, infrastructure, workforce training, and more without raising taxes. The committee recently approved Barnard’s bill, which has been referred to Appropriations for further review.
In addition to her leadership role, Barnard serves as a member of the Capital Budget, Environment and Energy, and Rules committees.
“I am honored to advocate for policies that support our veterans, promote innovation, help schools and communities, and strengthen Washington’s economy,” added Barnard. “As we work through this legislative session, my focus will remain on ensuring that all our state’s communities — rural and urban — have the resources and opportunities they need to grow and thrive.”
The 2025 legislative session began on Jan. 13 and is scheduled to run for 105 days.
